A Weekend In Ile-Ife, Osun State

Funeral Service at St Paul's Anglican Church Ile Ife, Osun State

I lost my aunt earlier this year, so we all had to travel to my mums hometown, Ile- Ife in Osun state, for the funeral. It was a truly emotional weekend for me. I’ve never lost any one I know personally and it was my first time attending a funeral. My aunt’s death was quite sudden even though she was a little over 80 years old.

She was always full of life and energetic. Every time I got to see her she was always pleasant to me and would pray for me. Did I mention she passed away on my birthday? sigh

This was my tribute to her:

TRIBUTE TO BIG MUMMY

“Big Mummy” may have departed this life but her legacy lives on. I have only positive memories of her, as every encounter with her was delightful, I remember how motherly she was towards I and my sister, my “A duppy” song she composed for me when I was much younger (and sang every time she saw me), and how she never forgot my birthday (or anyone’s birthday for that matter). Her passing on, on the morning of my birthday was indeed very emotional for me. I am grateful to have shared precious moments with her. I bid you farewell Big Mummy, Rest in peace Ma, God keep you. Until we meet again.”

That weekend, I also got to spend time with my cousins who I hadn’t seen in a very long time. It was fun catching up with them and also seeing a bit more of the City.
