I Just recently started paying extra attention to my skin, I’ve done it in the past, but usually when I break out and the moment everything seems fine, forget it! But I really wanted to see my skin at it’s best so I tried a couple of products this year, some made my face better, others worsened it. I even got facials thanks to the amazing people at Signature spa. I also got a skin consultation with the beautician who put me through a skincare routine that’s suitable for my type of skin. This made me pay more attention to my skin.

The routine involved me using a couple of Items I normally would not use, like the Konjac sponge and Forever Living sunscreen. I rarely stick to one product for too long and I’m sure thats not the best, but so far, I think these products have been effective, since I’ve been consistent with my routine.

HOW I PICKED MY PRODUCTS

1. First I got to understand my skin type. My skin is quite sensitive so I didn’t need to use any harsh products.

2. The beautician recommended the Konjac sponge which is an organic sponge that has loads of medical benefits. I got mine from Casabella at Jabi lake mall. She also gave me the Forever living aloe sunscreen, broad spectrum SPF 30. I’ve never used a sunscreen and never thought I’d have to use one but apparently, sunscreens work for black people! lool

3. The SebaMed was picked based on the fact that the brand has been long recognized for balancing the skins pH which is very important if you want a clear and healthy skin.

4. The Kush Organics Whipped butter came in handy when the harmattan kicked in, It was so good I had to buy another one.It is entirely organic and very moisturizing.

MY SKINCARE ROUTINE

MORNING

The Aveeno Clear complexion Cream cleanser and Aveeno Positively radiant daily scrub go hand in hand, sometimes I use one after the other, other times I use only one at a time. I use them along with the Konjac sponge, this has been super refreshing as the Konjac sponge itself is 100% alkaline, and helps balance the pH of your skin while it gently exfoliates and cleanses it.

After that I use a cotton pad to apply the Sebamed Clear face deep cleansing facial toner, then I moisturize with my regular body lotion or with the jojoba oil. If I know I’d likely be exposed to the sun for a long time, I’ll use the Forever living aloe sunscreen, broad spectrum SPF 30.

NIGHT

At night, I wipe my face with facial wipes (whether or not I have make up on) then I wash with my regular bathing soap and the cleanse/ scrub with the Aveeno Clear complexion Cream cleanser and Aveeno Positively radiant daily scrub and then tone with the Sebamed Clear face deep cleansing facial toner. At this point, I’ll use the Queen Helene mud pack masque (maybe weekly or bi weekly), rinse off and moisturize.

To be honest it’s been quite a stressful year for me so far and it began to tell on my skin, my skin became dull and rough, I had dark spots too!! and all sorts of interesting things were going on on my skin. LOL. I’ve only been on this routine for a couple of weeks, within about two weeks of incorporating these products into my routine, coupled with getting more sleep, I started to see improvements. I’ll report back soon on the progress of my skin, in the meantime, please share some products that have worked for you and what your skin care routine is like.
