We hold ourselves back in ways both big and small, by lacking self confidence, by not raising our hands, and by pulling back when we should be leaning in”
In this book Sheryl Sandberg talked about why women don’t achieve leadership roles as much as they should, she explains the root causes such as mother hood and culture. she also offered solutions that can empower women to achieve their full potential; one of which is to LEAN IN ( seeking challenges, taking risks and pursuing goals relentlessly).
Sheryl Sandberg is the chief operating officer of Facebook and is ranked on Fortune’s list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business and as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World. I love the TEDTalk she gave In 2010, where she described how women unintentionally hold themselves back in their careers.
you should watch it…
A lot of people find this book as being controversial or too feminist, but i think thats because she brought up issues that a lot of people aren’t comfortable talking about. Like how difficult it is for a woman to balance her home and her career (or be successful at both) especially in a society where gender roles have been significantly defined.
One thing I’m taking away from it is that you can’t do it all, trying to do it all and expecting that it all can be done exactly right is a recipe for disappointment. Perfection is the enemy. Focus on what you can do, and perfect that. And also, balancing a home and a successful career is difficult, BUT IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
My top 5 favorite Quotes from the book
“ Done is better than perfect”
“If you are offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat, Just get on”
“Its time to cheer on girls and women who want to sit at the table”
“Speak up, Believe in yourself, Take risks”
“Don’t let your fears overwhelm your desire. Let the barriers you face be external, not internal”
